[Food for thought] — Administrator @

Tomorrow ends my 9 1/2 week vacation. BOO HOO! I’m torn between being ok with it and being sad about it. Tonight Erik is taking me, just me, out to supper to celebrate the end of an era. My maternity leave days. (Ok, I think it’s just an excuse to go out to eat but I’m going with it.) Really though, it’s the end of my maternity leave days. WOW! As much as I DON’T want to have any more babies EVER, it’s sad to think I can’t now. Not even if I got a wild hair and wanted another one. And trust me, when Evan is like 1, I would have gotten a wild hair because I LOVE babies!! I have baby fever. Always have and always will. Good thing I took care of things when I had my c-section. So tomorrow I get to go help other new mommies and watch their joy as they bond with their precious baby. That will most likely make me miss Evan terribly. Erik wants me to stop nursing so I’m contemplating it. He wants to be able to help more in the night and also so that he can watch Evan and let me go shopping or to the store and not worry about when I will get back so I can feed the baby. It isn’t a selfish thing, it’s so he can give me some much needed alone/sleep time. So I’m thinking about it. I think I’ll wait to see how it goes at work these next weeks and if I can continue to keep up with my little moo-cow. My goal was to nurse for 6 months but if that doesn’t pan out, it’s ok with me. I got the chance to be wonder mom and nurse Braden for nearly 18 months. So I’ve had that experience in my lifetime.

Today all 5 of us, Erik, me, A, J, and Braden all went to a new dentist. Sad to say but we hadn’t gone for 2 years. I was expecting all of us to have rot-mouth but no one had any cavities! YIPPEE! I was informed that Jaelyn is going to have to have a palette expander in the next year since her upper jaw is very narrow. I asked if that will be painful. The response I got was, “She will have pressure.” Ok, that means pain in orthodontic language. Of all my kids, why does SHE have to have this “pressure” in her mouth? They keep this permanent palette expander in for 8 months and every day we have to use a special key to turn or tighten it. OUCH! She’ll never go for it. But that’s in a year. Avery has a tooth that is coming in high on the gum line so we may be looking at braces for him too in the next few years. Guess Erik better be checking his dental/orthodontic coverage with MetLife!

From Couch potato to 5K [Food for thought] — Administrator @

Erik sent me this site out of the blue Friday. I first laughed but then started thinking that this could be a good way to actually shed some pounds. I haven’t ran since my last basketball game in 1993. So after supper tonight I conned Avery into coming along to “be my coach”. He was pumped! He got to run the stop watch. My first week’s workout consists of a 5 minute warm up, then 20 minutes of a 60 second run followed by a 90 second walk. That is 8 cycles. Then you cool down with a 5 min. walk. We started out and Avery started laughing at me! He couldn’t help but notice my boobs were bouncing all over the place and he was “busting” up! I wanted to quit after my 3rd cycle but I stayed with it and after it was all said and done, I managed to chalk up 2 miles. Not that great but it’s a start. I used to be the fastest runner on the softball team when I played and now Avery can do a fast walk and keep up with my run. Sad. The site says that if I do this, I will be able to run a 5K. So Erik, Avery, and I are officially in training and when we feel like we can run a 5K race without embarassing ourselves, we are going to do it! I did have to promise Avery I’d wear 2 bras for our next workout though.

Evan is 2 months old today! He goes to the doctor tomorrow for his first round of immunizations. Poor boy! I wonder how Jaelyn will do watching him get shots. She’s such a little mommy and can’t stand it when he’s fussing. He’ll coo and she’ll pick him up saying, “but mommy he was crying!” Braden fessed up the other day and admitted he doesn’t like Evan. I walked in the bedroom to find Braden saying something I couldn’t make out right in Evan’s face and then he proceeded to slap the baby across the face. I was shocked and really upset with him obviously. Poor baby was asleep and had to wake up to his biggest nightmare beating him. I have to be on high alert when Braden is around the baby.

Look at how those eyelashes are coming in!

Sharathon is over and by the grace of God, KSBJ raised over $5 million dollars for the 2nd year in a row, hitting their all time high record. Erik worked and played hard for 3 days. God has blessed KSBJ for the 25th year now!

I’ll try to post more photos from KSBJ once I get them downloaded.

insurance and expenses [Food for thought] — Administrator @

We have United Healthcare through Erik’s work for our insurance. We did that because it’s cheaper than mine. HOWEVER…I’m finding out that it’s MORE expensive in the end if you have to actually file a claim with them. Had I had the insurance the hospital has, my stay would have been written off! Before I even had Evan, like 10 weeks before I was even due, I started getting phone calls from the hospital trying to attempt to collect my deductible. I refused to pay it until I actually was admitted and gave birth to the baby in the event that for some odd reason, I had him at another hospital. So on Evan’s birth day, I sent Erik to the billing office where he paid $500. Little did I realize that we still were going to be responsible for 10% of the rest of the expenses. I have since received a $99 bill for anesthesia, and another $665 from my doctor for her part in it. I’m still waiting for the other foot to drop with the hospital expenses, including an NICU cost. It’s frustrating because with Avery, I paid $5. That’s it. That was the co-pay for the first doctor visit and everything was paid for. With Jaelyn and Braden I remember paying something but nothing like this. Kids sure are getting expensive! Speaking expenses…I have 2 in diapers still. It’s costing me an about $80/month for wipes and diapers for these 2 boys. Does that stop me from using disposible? Hell no! That’s the greatest thing $80 can buy! Cloth diapers would be a nightmare. I thought spacing them out like we did would avoid us having 2 in diapers at any given time but Braden has his own plan and timing for potty training, and it’s not today or anytime in the future. He loves to take off his diaper by himself and really doesn’t even care if he has a huge full diaper. They make them so good nowadays that the wetness isn’t felt by the child apparently. I have this fear that he will resist training so long that they actually will stop making diapers big enough for him. He’s already in size 6, the biggest size they make. Evan is in size 2 already. Today he was 14 lbs and 8 oz…that’s one day shy of 8 weeks. Moo cow!

My friend Shayla is ready to pop anyday. She’s pregnant with #2. She’s like the one of the only people I know that isn’t finding out the sex of the baby until it arrives. Good for her I say! That makes it exciting but I only could do that with Avery. When they pulled Avery out and said, “It’s a boy”, I said, “Really!?” I thought for certain HE was going to be a SHE. Boy was I wrong. Ever since, we just found out because I can’t wait. Good for the Zeigler’s for keeping it a surprise!

Remember way back when I made a list of all my friends that were pregnant at the same time? Well, here’s the list of what they all had…

Sharon-Girl (Lillian)
Megan-boy (Lane)
Dr. M-girl (Isabella)

Kim S.-girl (Wren)

Avery started going to a sports camp on Friday mornings at our old church ACC. The only reason I’m letting him go is because my mother in law told me about it and she has to bring him 2 of the 4 days that he can go. Otherwise I wouldn’t have done it. It’s too weird for me to bring my kid to one of their events when we don’t even goto the church anymore. When I dropped him off this last week, the pastor’s wife was out signing the kids in for camp and she HAD to have seen me because I was 1 of 3 moms standing up at the table. Did she say hi, no way. Then when I picked him up, I had to go inside the building hauling the baby seat and with the other 2 in tow. She was holding the door open for another person as they were leaving and I was like 20 feet away from the door. She closed the door and went back inside instead of waiting for me to get up there (a whole 4 second walk) and saying hi to me then. She was completely avoiding any contact with me. It was obvious. I honestly don’t want Avery going this next week if I have to bring him because of how I was treated. Even some of the other ladies that used to come up to me when we went there, looked at me, and never said hello, just walked away. Whatever. Maybe that is part of the reason that church is falling apart. Too much superficial petty crap. Our church we goto now has VBS and even a music camp we are thinking about making the kids goto. They have their own sport camps that last a week each and during the year, have their own youth and even adult sport leagues. We are going to get more involved with that this year since the kids need the interaction with other kids and need the exercise through sporting events, but also because they love this new church. I want to get more involved and join a small group so that we can meet other couples and make some new friends. The main couple we hang out with who also has a son, is traveling all summer so we have no one to hang with really. It’s boring because this is the time when I like to have people over to grill, do family activities, etc. I’m bored.

We’ve had a pretty good weekend! Erik’s mom, Kim, celebrated her 50th birthday down in Galveston at the beach house. Even though it has been raining since Thursday off and on, we did manage to get to the beach and swim in the ocean for a little bit. Happy Father’s Day to the all the great fathers of the world! My kids made shell crosses for Erik’s office and we got him some golf stuff. We went to church on Sunday too and I met a lady who is 2 weeks from her due date and will be having a c-section at Kingwood when I go back to work. She was happy to get to meet one of her post partum nurses…me! I have 10 days of maternity leave left and then I will be getting a paycheck again! YEAH! We started a schedule at our house to make our days run a little smoother. So far we have followed it only about 1/8 of the time but this week we are going to try to be better.
Thursday night we had severe thunderstorms but afterwards we had a beautiful rainbow to look at
