Today I’ve been thinking about 2007 and one of my most favorite things to do this time of year is create my Resolution list. Some with argue that this is stupid because resolutions are meant to be broken. Just like most people I included a goal about losing weight. Only I didn’t over do it and say, lose 80 lbs in 2 months or something crazy like that. I kept it simple and reachable. Some things I won’t/can’t even get to do until after the baby makes his appearance in April/May so I kept that in mind when making my goals/resolutions. Even Avery made some, which were funny. His were #1. Beat Mom in Scrabble 5 times, #2. Beat Dad in fooseball 5 times, #3. Be good to the baby. Jaelyn’s were #1. Have Girls day out every month, #2. Father/Daughter date every month, #3. Start gymnastics. And I’m making up Braden’s one and only…#1 GET POTTY TRAINED IN 2007! I just think it’s fun to reach deep down and see what is laying on your heart to change/improve and then attempting to acheive these. I used to make lists like 25 items long but then realized that it’s too stressful trying to improve/change that many things about yourself or your situation. One year my resolutions were to buy a house and to have another baby. That was in 2000. We bought our first home in June 2000 and were pregnant with Jaelyn, who was later born in Feb. 2001. But in my eyes we completed our tasks! It’s fun to set goals for yourself and work towards something. Makes the everyday hustle and bustle worth it. So here is my 2007 New Year’s Resolution list:
Find a new church home
Paint something in this house!
*bathroom
Scrapbook 4 times (once a quarter) at least
*get completed pages secured in albums, scrapbook events of 2006
Set up weekly schedule so Erik and I can each get quality time with each of the kids alone
Work 1 extra shift every month for extra kid activities
*gymnastics/football/soccer
After the baby comes, lose 30 lbs by Christmas ‘07 (June-Dec.)
Create and stick with a cleaning schedule for my house
Set aside money for kid’s education funds each pay check and not touch it
I hope you all can set just 1 goal/resolution for yourselves in 2007 and stick to it! You are never a failure for trying and as the saying goes: It is better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all!
If you want to drop me a comment sharing your resolutions I’d love to help encourage you!

I never thought this day would come where I could shout out, “I’m a day shift nurse again!” As nice as the night nurses were, I’m going to be glad to get bad to the hustle and bustle of day shift. I think my time at work will go by faster and I’m all for that. I never did like to just sit around at work, makes me too nervous that something bad is about to happen. So starting next week, I’m gonna be smiles ear to ear. And hopefully a better rested person too. It’s harder sleeping during the day than one thinks.
The kids are getting more and more excited about opening gifts on Monday. Erik is dead set against letting them enjoy an early gift. He actually wants to let them open 1 gift every 15 minutes so it takes them longer. I said that’s mean. They have waited so patiently to open presents and I say, let them have fun ripping into them!
Well, off to bed!

This week is going to be a rough one with my night shifts all spread out and Erik’s mom, who watches our kids, will be in Iowa on vacation. Erik will have to take 2 vacation days to help out and on top of that we will have a house guest…Sara, Kim’s dog. She’s easy and such a sweet dog but it’s just the fact I have another body in the house to manuver around. Christmas will be just Erik, the kids, and myself. Good thing most of what I bought requires assembly so we’ll be busy all day doing that stuff. I have most of my wrapping done, just a few more to finish up with. I got all my out of town people shopped for this weekend and mailed off today. I know, I’m cutting it a little close. This year, my mind wasn’t on straight and I wasn’t ahead of the game like in years past. But it’s working out. We celebrate with Erik’s mom on Jan 6th so I have time to finish that group up in the next week or so.
Today is the first day the kid’s are officially on Christmas break and it started out a little rough. Thank goodness they still buy into the whole threat of taking away Christmas presents. I can use that for another week anyway.
It’s overcast today, not cold, but just lazy weather. I understand Iowa has only a 5% chance of a white Christmas too so we aren’t going to feel too bad this year when we don’t see snow on the ground.
Last night while at a friend’s house, Avery got into a fight with a tree. As funny as it sounds, it was by far not funny at all. They were playing tag and his friend, who is a huge 3rd grader, shoved him into the tree, leaving him with a mild concussion and a black eye. In fact today his whole right side of his face is bruised and swollen. He got home and started complaining of a headache and then started vomiting. The kid’s brother and dad came over to check on Avery which I thought was at least considerate but the kid that did it, never came over. Avery was in bad shape. And he thinks he wants to play football? I don’t know if I can handle seeing my kid get the snot beat out of him like this. Erik reassures me they wear helmits and pads in football. I told Avery I’m getting him a helmit to wear when he plays with Nolan as this is the 2nd time things got out of control while playing together. A’s doing much better today, back to his normal self.
