The search is on… [Uncategorized] — Administrator @

We are advised to have 1 gallon of water per person per day. So that is 6 gallons a day x ??? days we could be without water if the storm hit us. I went to 3 stores today, including walmart and only Dollar Tree had water left. They had a limit as to how much you could buy too. So I have 24 bottles of flavored propel water and 2 cases of regular bottled water. I stocked up on batteries, flashlights, diapers, wipes, and got a battery operated clock. Erik has his cell phone so we can at least call out considering that works. I think we are as ready as we could be if things get rough. Being prepared hopefully will keep this at bay, no pun intended. If it does become a Category 4 Hurricane, we will evacuate to Iowa, regardless of our jobs. It’s nerve wracking to think of what to pack in the event we have to leave. Everything can be replaced except my family and my scrapbooks. I’m going to get important documents and papers together just in case. I don’t want to be surprised.

Hurricane Rita headed our way [Food for thought] — Administrator @

Kim, Debbie and Vicki are headed to see the ocean today at Galveston. The waters are getting rougher already and actually Galveston residents are advised to voluntarily evacuate. They are predicting a level 3-4 to hit the shore by Friday night. If it is indeed a level 4 it will hit us by Saturday middle of the night. Walmarts are running out of bottled water, flashlights, and batteries as people are starting to panic a little. We haven’t been given the warnings at this point to leave. I guess from what my friend down here is telling me, once the hurricane hits the warm waters of the Gulf, it will pick up speed, and could be here as early as Thursday. I’m not sure what to expect but I’m getting a little nervous at this point. This is all new to us. We know we will have our master closet cleared out and ready just in case as it is the biggest room without windows. I think I’m going to get a survival kit in there just in case. If we get the warning to leave, I’ll be in the van so fast heading to Iowa. The only thing I’m worried about it my job. Do they expect me to stay here since I’m a nurse? First and foremost, I’m a mother. I can get a nursing job anywhere so as far as that goes, it’s gonna be the least of my worries. Prayers for the people affected by the hurricanes so far this year and for those that are soon to be affected.
